1. What is the cost of a tiny house?

Many people choose to go with a tiny house because of its relatively low cost compared to the average size home. They can range up to the higher end of $80,000 but that’s all dependent on where you live and whether or not you purchase your tiny house new or used. At Classic Buildings, we are happy to offer financing options through Hearth Financing to help you get the building of your dreams without the wait.

Through Hearth, you have the option to be prequalified for a loan without any impact on your credit score. Hearth will send you loan options from their lending partners, provide you with an opportunity to finalize your loan application through the partner of your choice, and you will receive your funds within 1-5 days! The best part? You can have a credit score as low as 580 to receive predictable, monthly funding to pay for your very own tiny house!

 2. Who’s building my tiny house?

Some people choose to build their own tiny home in order to cut back on costs, but others choose to have their home built by a company. It’s incredibly important that you do a lot of research before you choose to have somebody build you a tiny home. Keep in mind that even though it’s different, this is still your home. Would you want to live somewhere that has constant leaking or was not properly sealed? I know we wouldn’t! Take your time to ask around and research some of the better tiny house builders in Missouri or in your area. Also, if you’re buying used make sure you do a background check on the home.

 3.  How do the utilities work?

As mentioned on thetinyhouse.net there are many different ways that you can set up utilities inside of a tiny house. Before purchasing a home it’s important to check that the utilities are working properly and that they’re all installed correctly. You should also make certain that you understand how all of the utilities work. For example, some tiny houses use propane or wood stoves while others require electricity. Also, if you’re planning on going off the grid you’ll need to find a tiny house that provides utilities which allow you to do so, such as a water tank.

You’ll also want to find out if certain utilities such as a refrigerator, microwave, range or others will be provided. If you’re purchasing a tiny house second hand you’ll also want additional details pertaining to the age of these utilities.

4.  Is it well insulated?

Depending on where you’re considering living, you’ll want to ensure that your tiny house is properly insulated. In Missouri for example, it can get fairly cold in the winter months on average dropping to 21.2°F. You’ll want to look into how much insulation is in your home and also what type of insulation has been used in your home. Also, ensure that all windows and doors have been properly installed so that you can avoid having a drafty home.

 5.  Are you prepared to live a more minimalist life?

This question isn’t something that necessarily pertains to the home itself, but it is something that you’ll want to ensure you’re ready for before purchasing a tiny home. As stated on Business Insider, living in a tiny home means that you won’t be able to purchase as much as you used to. While for some this may be a blessing, others will find it difficult to minimalize their ability to purchase products or to get rid of some of the things they may already own. For example, living in a tiny home means you’ll most likely never be able to purchase items such as a pool table, a grand piano, or even a full-sized dining room table. On the other hand, living a more minimalist life can also mean great savings on expenses like utilities according to the Springfield News-Leader.

Before purchasing a tiny home you’ll need to ensure that you (and anyone who will be living with you) are prepared for the lifestyle that a tiny home provides. This generally means living with the daily essentials and not much more. You must be able to embrace this simplicity before committing to your purchase.
