Storage Sheds – How We Build Them

When you look at finished storage sheds, you may wonder what it takes to get it from a pile of wood to a functional storage building. For this article, we interviewed an experienced Classic Buildings team member to get the inside scoop on storage sheds. You’ll learn a bit about our building process, Amish craftsmanship, and what makes Classic Buildings stand above the rest. If you want to know more about our storage sheds, contact Classic Buildings today!

The Building Process

Before the builders begin the process, we need to ensure that storage shed orders are structurally sound and possible to build. If someone requests a custom portable building that is not possible, the team will work with the customer to find an alternative and ensure the building is both structurally sound and fulfills the customer’s wants and need.

Once the building is ready to go, the order is sent to the office and is double checked before moving on to the next part of the building process.  After that, the builders receive the order and – you guessed it – the builders double check the order one final time before beginning construction. This may seem like a lot of steps, but all this double checking is important. At Classic Buildings, we believe in getting it right the first time.

Once the orders are approved, it’s time to build the storage sheds! Storage sheds, like all of our buildings, are constructed in an assembly line construction process. This process was designed by the Classic Buildings owner, ensuring high-quality work on every single building. This process requires many different skilled workers. For example, the shop foreman builds the floor – that is the first step. A few builders will then get the building ready by cutting the walls, preparing the studs, and preparing the building for painting. Once it gets to the framers, all they have to do is nail the storage shed together! Once the building process is complete, the next step is delivery.

How Do We Deliver Our Storage Sheds?

delivering a storage shed

The delivery process allows us to deliver your pre-built shed right to your property! The building is loaded onto state-of-the-art delivery trucks driven by experienced and professional drivers. You can even meet our drivers here!

Once the building is delivered to your property, we use a shed mule to help install your building. Our highly trained installation team can use the mule to maneuver storage sheds and other portable buildings in the tightest of places – so your shed can go exactly where you want it.

Are There Benefits of Delivery Versus On-Site Building?

Approximately 70% of our buildings are built and delivered as a complete unit right to your home. That leaves about 30% of buildings that are built directly on-site. On-site building allows for large or highly customized buildings to be built if delivery is not an option. For example, buildings that are just too big to haul or buildings that come with a fence or gate would be built on-site.

The benefit of building directly on-site is that you can build an extra large building or include all the extras you want without worrying about transportation. The drawback to on-site building is that it definitely makes a bigger mess on your property. The shed mule ensures little to no damage is done to your lawn while transporting portable buildings. Of course, when a shed is built directly on-site, there will be more of a mess.

You may also be wondering how long the building and delivery process takes. Although it depends on a few factors such as size of the building, the average shed building and delivery process takes 3-6 weeks. However, if you purchase a display model or other pre-built building, you may be able to have your new shed delivered within 7-10 days!

What Makes Classic Buildings Stand Above The Rest?

With Classic Buildings, you can be sure you receive only the highest quality materials and work. We value customer service and quality over quantity. With a rich Amish heritage, Classic Buildings founder Kenneth Miller applies traditional Amish craftsmanship and techniques to all of Classic Buildings’ products.

Why does Amish craftsmanship help make Classic Buildings stand above the rest? Amish craftsmanship is known for its high-quality wood products. With deep roots in carpentry, woodworking, and other skilled trades, the Amish have passed down trade secrets and excellent techniques from generation to generation. However, the biggest difference is the mindset. Amish sheds are not just a type of shed – they evidence a mindset and process that focuses on quality, honesty, and integrity.

With Classic Buildings, you also get nearly unlimited customization options. As long as it’s structurally sound, you can pretty much build anything your heart desires. With tons of options and features, you can add in flower boxes, an insulated floor, vented skylights, lofts and shelves, dormers, and so much more. We’ve had customers use our portable buildings for more than just storage sheds. One customer uses their building as a bakery. Another customer added stilts to their building and created a fully functional deer blind! With Classic Buildings, it’s easy to create your dream shed.

Shed Use

Classic Buildings – Customer Gallery

Sheds have come a long way in the last few years! People use sheds for so many things – many you may have never thought of! Here are just a few of the more common shed purposes:

  • A storage space for outdoor materials and tools.
  • A storage space for vehicles (e.g. ATVs, dirt bikes, etc.)
  • A workspace for repairs, woodworking, crafting, etc.
  • A fully outfitted garden shed, equipped with pots, garden tools, seeds, etc.
  • A “man-cave” or “woman-cave” (nicknamed the “she-shed”) – a space to retreat.
  • An office or art studio

When asked what was the most unique thing a Classic Building’s shed was used for, one of our team members recalled a shed one customer converted into a fully functional bakery! Another customer added stilts to their shed, creating the perfect deer blind.

At Classic Buildings, it’s easy to customize your shed. we offer lots of features and options. That way, you can turn your shed into the perfect workspace, storage space, “she-shed,” or whatever else you have in mind!
